Carrie's Birth Story
Steve and I are happy to announce the arrival of Owen Anthony Rodriguez! Owen was born at 2:25 am on September 29, weighing in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 21 inches long.
There were a few complications with his labor, but we are home now and he is happy and healthy and starting to gain his weight back which is what matters.
During labor, Owen's heart rate fell drastically several times and each time the nurses/doctor from St Vincent's would rush in and have me flip over to the left, to the right, get in my hands & knees, and various other positions to try and make Owen more comfortable and get his hear trate up again. This worked a few times but ultimately it wasn't enough and we couldn't get his heart rate high enough so I had to have an emergency c-section.
We found out later that the cord was wrapped around his neck and shoulders and that's what was causing his heartrate to drop so much. He also broke his right clavicle somehow but that seems to be healing well and we've been told that isn't all that uncommon. The other complication was that with all of the flipping and twisting during labor (made more difficult since I had an epideral and couldn't use my legs to flip over), I managed to pull a muscle in my back. That has made recovery pretty difficult, but I've gone to Anne Prescott (Chiropractor) a few times and that is helpful (THANK YOU FOR THE REFERRAL, VITTORIA!).
