Heidi's Birth Story

A quick note to let you know that our little baby girl, Annika Marie, arrived last Tuesday, 9/22.

At a routine doctor's appt on Monday (9/21), the doctor noticed that the baby's heart rate dropped more than he'd like to see after a contraction.  Given that we were scheduled for an induction on Tuesday morning (9/22), the doctor sent us over to St. Vincent's on Monday night for a more thorough exam and possible evening induction or c-section.  Long story short, they put me on pitocin on Monday night to try to ripen my cervix and inspire the baby's head to move down into my pelvis.

During an early morning exam on Tuesday (9/22), the doctors discovered that my cervix had not ripened beyond 1 cm and the baby's head still had not come down into my pelvis-- both, likely, due to the presence of my fibroid.  We all decided that a c- section was going to be best for all concerned. So, at 10:30am on Tuesday, 9/22, our little Annika was born.  She's doing really well... teaching us how to interpret her cries, wowing us with her amazing gazes and delighting us with her calming presence.  I'm also doing well.  Went for a 3/4 mile walk today and can bend over, etc. again... the doctors think that my running and yoga have helped me along the path to a very speedy recovery.  (After the c-section, the doctor said that between the large size of my fibroid (it is bigger than Annika's head) and her large head, a vaginal delivery would not have been possible-- even if my cervix had fully dialated.)

Annika and I will see you in post natal yoga very soon.

Please give the women in prenatal yoga my best.
