Hi Vittoria,
I know it's been a while but I just wanted to let you know I had my baby boy. It took me a while to find the energy to write down my birth story cause it's kinda long. In the last few weeks of pregnancy it became pretty painful to walk because of all the hip and thigh pain I was having even though I did visit with a chiropractor and I wasn't able to get to the last few yoga classes.
So for the last few visits with my midwife my belly had been measuring 2-4 weeks bigger than what I was supposed to be at. I was concerned about having a large baby since my husband was a ten pounder when he was born. At my 38 week ultrasound the tech estimated my son's weight to be right at 10 lbs. and at that point I was worried that if I made it to my due date or over I would most likely end up with a c-section because of the baby's size. I really wanted a vaginal birth so with the support of my midwife she agreed to induce me early so I could have the birth that I wanted.
I was admitted to Legacy Emanuel on Sunday 12/20/09 @ 8pm and was given Cervidil to soften my cervix. At 9am the next morning I was given Pitocin. The contractions weren't too bad but after a few hours I was dialating at a very slow pace so I had my water broken and after that my contractions took off and were very intense. I have heard that Pitocin contractions are a lot more painful than natural ones. I was hoping for a natural birth and I feel I would have been able to if I had gone into labor naturally but I am very happy with how it turned out even though I ended up getting an epidural.
By 12am I was fully dialated and started pushing. At this point the epidural had worn off so I felt everything. Even though it seemed excruciating at the time my husband and mother-in-law tell me how amazed they were at how quiet and calm I was. After 2 hours of pushing I delivered my son, Camden James Brockamp, at 2:02 am on December 22nd. He was 9lbs. 9oz., 21 inches long and had a 15 inch head! The ultrasound wasn't too far off then. I had a 2nd degree tear and lost a little bit of blood but other than that everything went well. The nurses and staff at Legacy were amazing and we were able to go home the day after I gave birth.
My husband and I are so in love and amazed by our son. Everything is going well and we are trying to get to know and figure this little guy out. I still have some hip pain so I'm hoping with another visit to the chiropractor it can be fixed. I hope you and the girls in prenatal are doing well.
