Sandy's Birth Story

Alexandra Rory Seymour has arrived! Most obvious characteristic is a great set of lungs that she likes to test on a recurring basis.
She was born at OHSU on 12/2/09 at 4:05pm, she weighted in at 6lbs 12oz. and at a whopping 19.25 inches tall. I went 41.5 weeks and midwife had decided that I would need to induce the next day because of worries that the placenta was breaking down. I think the thought of the induction is what finally pushed me into labor. Induction was a great fear of mine, so was very happy that labor started on its own.

I went into labor Tuesday 12/1/09 about 7pm and left for the hospital at 1am. I was 5 centimeters dilated by the time I arrived at the hospital and received an epidural about an hour later. Labor progressed well until about 1pm Thursday when labor had stalled with me at 8 centimeters, Alexandras head was tilted, so she was not able continue out the birth canal. With her stuck, Alexandras started showing signs of fetal distress, her heart rate was going up and down, something the midwife called an arrhythmia. The midwife decided that the safest thing to do would be to administer a small dose of pitocin to help labor progress. That seemed to have worked because Alexandra's head moved into position and I went into second stage labor about 2 hours later.

Alexandra was born vaginally 15 minutes after that. Midwife said that was one of the fastest second stages she has seen. I had 2nd degree tearing and a pulled ligament in my groin from pushing, but otherwise all went well.

Sandy back at yoga w/AlexandraI miss yoga, life got very hectic the last two weeks of my pregnancy and could just not find the time to make it yoga. I'm planning on attending post natal yoga within the next couple of weeks so will see you then.
